Question of the Week: July 28, 2008

Lorena over at Snarkland asks:
Would you ever want to change your gender for just one day? Just to see what it’s like?

My response:
I have no desire to be a man. So, no I would not like to change gender, not even for a day.

Question of the Week: Irrational

Question of the Week
Hosted by Lorena of Snarkland

Lorena asks..."Is there anything irrational that you continually do?"

My response..."I am 37 years old and I am still afraid of the dark. I have to have a night light or some sort of light on when I am sleeping. Now that I am an adult I see this as irrational but I have not been able to change how I feel."

What do you continue to do that is irrational? Visit other responses HERE

Question of the Week: July 14, 2008

Question of the Week
Hosted by Lorena at Snarkland

Assuming that in any of these that you would be working in a position that you’d love to be doing (be it booking, roadie, performer, whatever); would you rather travel around the country with a sports team, a rock band, or a circus?

I would rather travel with a Rock Band. The circus would be ok but I don't like clowns. Sports teams would not be rather boring I think.

Question of the Week: What Parents Tell Us

Question of the Week
Hosted by Lorena at Snarkland

What do you wish that your parents had told you while you were still a child? Is there anything you wish they hadn’t told you?

The real question is...would I have listened to them? As a child I always felt that my parents were too bossy and didn't want me to do anything or go any where. But as I got older I realized they were trying to protect me from all the bad stuff in this world. Becoming an adult opened my eyes to a lot of things that I never seen as a child...I thank my parents for helping my childhood to be somewhat decent. I think they did the best they could and that my brother and I turned out ok.

Question of the Week: June 30, 2008

Question of the Week: June 30, 2008
Hosted by Lorena of Snarkland

Lorena say..."Thanks to HBO, Tim and I have been watching a lot of Carlin this week. At one point in a routine (about sports) Tim pauses it and says, “my old college roommate used to do this routine! I didn’t know it was Carlin!” and then later when Carlin is talking about language and words and how you can’t say all this and that, I’m laughing and saying, “I can’t believe I was allowed to watch this when I was eight years old!” (kidding; I can believe it-- my family was all about language, self-education, and the power of words).

My point is this: we were raised completely differently. And yet, we have a lot of the same fundamental ideas in common. He was raised by Catholics, and I was raised in the wild by hippies. Yet we have a great relationship.

So my question is this: is there someone in your life that you are close to—doesn’t have to necessarily be a spouse or a Significant Other; it can be a close friend or a long-lost sibling separated-at-birth. But while they may have been raised completely differently than how you were raised, you still have much in common and have a great relationship with"

Shannon's Response: One of my best friends, Nancy and I were raised differently yet we seem to have a lot in common and we have a great relationship. She is my daughter's Godmother and an awesome friend. Nancy has stood by my side through the good and the bad and is always there for me to lean on. I have cried on her shoulders many times throughout our life and she is one hell of a lady!

Question of the Week: Offensive Words

Question of the Week
Hosted by Lorena

This week’s question is in honor of George Carlin.

And the Question of the Week is… What words do you, personally, find offensive?

One word that I think is very offensive is the word cunt! I do not like hearing people say that word and I don't like to say it. It is very degrading.

Question of the Week: Scary Things

Question of the Week
Hosted by Lorena
www.snarkland.com

And the Question of the Week is…

When I was a child, I used to have nightmares about skeletons that lived in my closet (I know you are all psychoanalyzing me now), and ghosts and/or vampires who lived in the attic who would come down through a ladder in the closet. When you were a child, were there any scary creatures that you thought lived in your bedroom?

I was convinced that a monster lived under my bed and that he would grab me by the feet and pull me under the bed with him. I would always turn off my light and jump to my bed...my bed was always as close to the light switch as I could get it. I was also afraid to leave my window open at night because I was afraid something or someone would come through it and hurt me.

Question of the Week: Success

Question of the Week
Hosted by Lorena
www.snarkland.com

And the Question of the Week is…How do you measure a person’s success in life...? Is it money? Power? Toys? Happiness?

I think success can be determined by happiness. I feel that if you are happy with your life, family, friends, work, etc then you are successful. If not, then it is time to reevaluate your life and find out ways to become happy and successful.

Question of the Week: June 2, 2008

And the Question of the Week is…
What are five things you are grateful for?

01. My son...he is a great kid and helps me to feel like I am a good mother.
02. My daughter...even when she drives me insane and makes me feel like crap.
03. My brother...my only sibling. He is always there for me.
04. My best friends...the two are always there when I need them, no matter what it is or what time/day it is.
05. My dogs...they help to keep me sane and show me unconditional love.

Question of the Week: May 19, 2008

And the Question of the Week is…
You have two days alone with your partner; you have no outside obligations or worries, and money is no object. Where would you go and what would you do?

Only two days? We would probably just stay home and relax for those two days :). OR we would rent a motel room in the nearest city and spend the two days relaxing by the pool sipping frilly drinks.

Question of the Week: May 12, 2008

And the Question of the Week is…
How do you make your life more complex than it really needs to be?

I tend to over think everything. I constantly worry about anything and everything and I find myself questioning everyone's motives. The bottom line is that I feel I cannot trust anyone. There are a few people that I do trust but I am not sure if I totally trust them because I always look beyond the words they say and look at their actions. I also try to "read between the lines" with them...so, do I actually trust them? Meh!

Monday Morning Meme: May 5, 2008

Monday Morning Meme
http://take2max.com/blog/

May 5th Questions:
1. What did you do over the weekend? We didn't do anything on Saturday. Sunday we went to see my boyfriend's parents. We barbecued and had a good dinner and dessert.

2. What’s for dinner tonight? What is for dinner Tuesday night? Do you normally plan your meals ahead of time? Why or why not?
I have no clue what we will be having for dinner tonight or Tuesday night. I never plan out our meals ahead of time because it is easier to just throw something together at the last minute.

3. What advice do you have for the last person who honked their horn at you? WHY did they honk their horn at you? Was it justified?
The last person that honked their horn at me was someone that I know from work. They were honking just to say hi. Yes, it was justified...I would not have noticed them if they didn't honk.

4. Have you ever faked an illness to get out of doing something? If so, what was the illness? What was the thing you wanted to get out of doing? How many times have you faked an illness? How many times do you call in sick to work? If you’ve never faked an illness, would you if you needed to get out of work for something really important?
When I was in college I faked a cold once or twice so that I could get out of class. I don't fake an illness often because I have too many real medical issues that need attention. I hardly ever call in sick to work. There is do much to do at the office and I am the one to get it done.

Question of the Week: Magazines

Question of the Week: May 5, 2008
Hosted by Lorena - www.snarkland.com

And the Question of the Week is…What magazines do you read?
Is there a magazine that you consistently find yourself recommending to people?

I enjoy reading Woman's Day, Good Housekeeping, Newsweek, Reader's Digest and Ladies Home Journal. I also like reading People, Star and US. I don't have a magazine that I recommend to people but I may recommend a good article if I come across one.

Friday Question #23

Friday Question #23

If you could “uninvent” any past invention, which one would it be?
(Consider all the ramifications of eliminating the invention.)

I think chocolate should have never been invented. It taste so good but does horrible things to my body. Sadly, if there was no chocolate I am sure I have so other form of sugary goodness to please my sweet tooth.

Question of the Week - April 21, 2008

QOTW - 2008/04/21 - Posted by Lorena www.snarkland.com/

And the Question of the Week is…

My friends and I have been much been talking about attitude lately (imagine!).

Do you find that it’s more true for you that you can catch more flies with honey? Or that if you go into a situation with both fists swinging, that you can easily bend people to your will?

_________________________________________________________________________

I think it depends on the situation. In most cases I find that you do catch more flies with honey and violence will just escalate the issue at hand. No matter what the situation is you should start off with the "honey" and watch how the other person(s) respond.

Friday Questions #20, #21 and #22

Friday Questions: www.ilaxstudio.com/blog/

# 20 - April 4, 2008:
What is your relationship like with your family? Do you live in the same town? How often do you see them/communicate with them?

My parents are deceased and so are my grandparents. I only have my two children, my grandson and one brother, Brian (three years younger than me), his wife and their three kids in my immediate family. My daughter lives 30 minutes away, my brother and his family are two hours away and my son lives with me still. We all communicate on a daily basis and have a pretty close relationship.

#21 - April 11, 2008:
Aside from your family, friends or pets, what would be the most difficult thing for you to give up in your life?

My computer and the Internet! Yes, I am an addict but I love playing games on the computer, chatting with friends and family and blogging!

#22 - April 18, 2008: Would you open a department/specialty store credit card just to save money on a purchase? How much would it have to save you - $10, $50, $100, $500+?

I would not open a department/specialty store credit card just to save money...it doesn't matter what amount I could be saving. Credit cards just get me into financial trouble and give me a false sense of financial security.

Question of the Week: Parents

QOTW - 2008/04/14

And the Question of the Week is…

What are (or were) your parents names, and what did you call them when you were a child? For example, “mom” and “dad”; or did you have some crazy nickname for them? Or did you call them by their first names?

My father's name is William "Bill" Gale Pinkley...he passed away April 19, 1992. My mother's name is Vickie Sue Henson-Pinkley...she passed away April 3, 1991. I did not have a nickname for either of them...I just called them Mom and Dad. Unless I wanted something then I called them Mommy and Daddy.

Question of the Week: Running Away

http://www.snarkland.com/index.php/weblog/comments/qotw_2008_04_07/

And the Question of the Week is…As a child or teen, did you ever run away from home?

When I was really young I ran away from home at least once a week..but I didn't go very far. My grandparents lived next door so I just ran down the path to their house!

When I was 17...nearly 18 I ran away from home with an older man (he was 30). Needless to say, life was not better away from home and I had to learn how to be an adult rather quickly.

March 24, 2008

Question of the Week - March 24, 2008

Question of the Week is…
Do you believe in good luck charms? Do you have one?

Shannon's Answer:
Growing up I was convinced that my lucky rabbits foot was a necessity to life. But as I got older I found that it didn't really help me all that much. I no longer carry the rabbits foot or any other good luck charm. Good luck will come my way with or with out one.
