Decals for Team Colt

Six years ago, my niece made these decals for my son and his fight against leukemia.

Colt lost his fight but was strong until the end.
Memories of Colt and the love felt for Colt will never die.
I hope and pray for a cure so that no family has to go through
seeing their loved one fight the battle against leukemia!

She got them all opened very fast!  I didn't get a chance to take a photo of her opening them.
But I did manage to get a few photos of her playing with her new toys.

Let's take a few minutes to think/talk about the dark side of Christmastime. Some people show joy on the outside, but on the inside they feel lonely, isolated, and sad.
Financial strain, high expectations, job issues, family conflict, stress, and depression can be at an all time high during the holidays. Some people truly cannot wait for the holidays to be over.
Keep family, friends, strangers....everyone in your thoughts and prayers. Please be kind to one another. Kindness cost nothing.

Leukemia Awareness Month 2021

September is Leukemia Awareness Month.

There are many types of leukemia., one of which is Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
My son, Colt was diagnosed with AML on February 8, 2016 and he died arch 10, 2016.
Colt was only 23 years old.
Learn the signs and symptoms of leukemia and learn how to talk to your loved ones if you have leukemia.  Hopefully one day there will be a cure and families will not lose their loved ones to this horrible disease.

"When A Child Dies, Part of A Parent Dies"

In loving memory of my son. Forever in my heart.
“When a child dies, part of a parent dies. That is a fact.

From that point forward, parents live in a state of "partial life" due to having what is now called "broken heart syndrome." We are just beginning to learn all of the facts concerning grief, the effects of grief, and the reality of how grief changes the very physical and emotional make-up of parents.

Those who say to parents of child loss that they should have closure and move on simply do not understand the facts of what happens to a parent physically and emotionally when a child dies. There are very real changes that take place. The pain of loss is real.

Yes, parents will eventually learn how to " live within the pain of loss" , but there will always and forever be a part of a parent that is missing. Parents of child loss are courageous beyond words! They are living with part of their heart and soul missing, and there is nothing ~ absolutely nothing ~ to compare to this kind of pain.”

You Are Loved

Today, when you look at your life, who you have become, be grateful that you've made it to today. I am sure you have had moments when you thought you were gonna drown. When you felt like you couldn't handle it any longer. BUT you are here and you are stronger than you thought you were. You are stronger than you think you are today.

You didn't arrive alone. You have had provision that surprised you, and support that helped hold you up You may not have even realized the influence that a simple smile may have had on your troubled heart or the hand that diverted that "last straw" that would have completely broken you.

Let the memory of your trials be a place of gratitude and the memory of your times of joy be sustenance for what may be hard today. If your days are easy right now, store the joy in your heart like priceless treasure! Be the influence of strength while you are strong. Be the smile, the comfort of provision, the words of experience.

 Know that you are loved.

Memorial Day 2021

“This is the day we pay homage to all those who didn’t come home.
This is not Veterans Day, it’s not a celebration,
it is a day of solemn contemplation over the cost of freedom.”

International Bereaved Mother's Day

Today is International Bereaved Mother's Day.
International Bereaved Mother’s Day is special day to
have our children, and our never-ending grief, acknowledged.
When you lose a child, you lose an entire lifetime of dreams, hopes, wishes and plans.

I miss my son all day, every day.
I think of him every day.
I go to sleep thinking about him.
I dream about him.
I wake up thinking about him.

I love you, Richard Colt Hazlett.
"Do not judge the bereaved mother, she comes in many forms.
She is breathing, but she is dying.
She may look young, but inside she has become ancient.
She smiles, but her heart sobs.
She walks, she talks, she cooks, she cleans, she works,
She IS, but she IS NOT, all at once.
She is here, but part of her is elsewhere for eternity."
