Sunday Stealing: Morning Meme

1. You have just been hired to clean your own home, what is your first complaint?

"Why is there so much dust?!!!"

2. Are you able to ignore a ringing telephone?

I am very much able to ignore a ringing telephone.

3. How often do you allow a ringing phone to go to voice mail?

It depends on where when the phone rings, who is calling and what time of day it is.
4. Do you answer your cell phone, out in public, every time it rings? Or do you silence it and get back to it when you’re in a more private area?

I do not always answer my phone when it rings while I am out in public or in private.  It always depends on where I am at when it rings, who is calling and what time of day it is.

5. How often would you say you’re on your home phone? Your cell phone?

My cell phone is my home phone. I do not have a landline.  During the work week I am on my phone very often during the day, in meetings, calls or messaging. Other than work stuff, I play games on my phone, text message, Facebook, Instagram, email, read the news, surf the net and more.

6. Do you like talking on the phone or do you view it as a necessary communication tool?

I do think phones are a necessary communication tool, but that does not mean I like to talk on the phone. I would much rather text or email on my smart phone than talk on it.
7. When did you last go for a bike ride?

I have not been on a bike ride for many years.  So long ago, that I cannot remember when the last time was.

8. Do you own a bike?

Currently, I do not own a bike. However, now that I am older and heavier, I do not feel comfortable riding a bike. If I purchase one, it will be a stationary bike.

9. Given the most popular New Year’s resolution of losing weight, would you consider putting bicycle riding as one of your exercise options? Why or why not?

I would and do consider bicycle riding as an exercise option.  Bicycle riding is a great cardio workout.
10. If you had to name a smell that always makes you nostalgic, what would it be? What sorts of memories does the smell evoke?

The smell of lilacs always make me nostalgic. Lilacs remind me of being back home in Missouri, in the area I was raised.  Lilacs remind me of my grandparents and sitting on the front porch with them, listening to grandpa tell us stories of the good old days.

11. What did you do over the weekend? No detail is too small. This is your journal, so tell us about the mundane tasks in your life.

Last weekend I went grocery shopping, made meals, fed the dog, played video games, napped, went to see my in-laws, did laundry, cleaned house and got ready for the work week.

12. If it weren’t for my blog, I’d _________.

If it weren't for my blog, I would not have met the many wonderful online friends that I have now.

13. When was the last time you replied “because I said so”? Do you find yourself saying that a lot? Or do you prefer to tell people WHY you want them to do something for you.

I have not said this in awhile.  I said it a lot when my children were growing up, but nowadays, not so much.  I don't mind explaining why I want someone to do something for me.

14. What is the worst gift you’ve ever received?

The engagement/wedding ring from my first husband...he purchased it from a bubble gum machine and paid 25 cents for it.
15. Tell us the worst gift you’ve ever given. What was the reaction of the recipient?
I cannot think of anything that I have given that was not well received.  If I have given any gifts that the recipient has not liked, they did a great job of hiding their shock or disappointment.

Stuck In My Head: "Under Pressure" by Queen

Pressure pushing down on me
Pressing down on you, no man ask for
Under pressure that burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming, "Let me out!"
Tomorrow gets me higher
Pressure on people - people on streets

Chippin' around, kick my brains 'round the floor
These are the days - it never rains but it pours
People on streets - people on streets

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming, "Let me out!"
Tomorrow gets me higher, higher, higher...
Pressure on people - people on streets

Turned away from it all like a blind man
Sat on a fence but it don't work
Keep coming up with love but it's so slashed and torn
Why, why, why?

Love

Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking
Can't we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can't we give love that one more chance?
Why can't we give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love?..

'Cause love's such an old-fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under pressure
Under pressure
Pressure

_______________________________________________________________

1. You have just been hired to clean your own home, what is your first complaint? Get rid of all the mold!

2. Are you able to ignore a ringing telephone? How often do you allow a ringing phone to go to voice mail? Do you answer your cell phone, out in public, every time it rings? Or do you silence it and get back to it when you’re in a more private area? How often would you say you’re on your home phone? Your cell phone? Do you like talking on the phone or do you view it as a necessary communication tool?
I am always able to ignore a ringing telephone and let it go to voice mail. I hate talking on the phone because I have a hard time hearing the other person. I try my best to not answer my cell phone when I am driving or in a public place.

3. When did you last go for a bike ride? Do you own a bike? Do you encourage your children to ride bikes? Given the most popular New Year’s resolution of losing weight, would you consider putting bicycle riding as one of your exercise options? Why or why not? I don't own a bike but my son has one. I do have an exercise bike. Once I get my own house I will set it up again. I have not been on a bike ride in 5 or 6 years.

4. If you had to name a smell that always makes you nostalgic, what would it be? What sorts of memories does the smell evoke? Lilacs remind me of my grandparents because they grew lilacs in their yard. Also, fresh baked apple dumplings remind me of my grandparents. Grandma made excellent apple dumplings!

1. What book is on your nightstand right now? What was the last book you read? How many books do you think you read in 2008? Currently on my nightstand is "Twilight" and I hope I am able to finish it before we start moving. The last book I read was yet another Readers Digest Condensed book. I read at least 40 books in 2008.

2. Name three blogfriends that have inspired you. Now please tell us how these blogfriends have inspired you. I am not brave enough to pick just three.

3. How far do you live from the place where you grew up as a kid? Tell us about the place you grew up - would you choose to go back there and raise your own family (if you have one)? Why or why not? I currently live nearly three hours from "home", but after I move I will be twelve or so hours away from home. The area I am from is a very small town, that rolls up the sidewalks at 5:00pm. The town has no stoplights, no fast food restaurants, and two small gas stations. I would not and will not raise my own family there since all opportunities are very limited.

4. Finish this line: Absence makes the heart……forget the painful things it has endured.
How long do you think is ‘too long’ to be away from your loved ones? Eight or nine hours each day is too long for me to be away from my children. I would love to be a work from home mom (making good money of course).

1. What was the last thing you laughed at? Would you say you have a great sense of humor? What sorts of things make you laugh in general? Would you say people “get” your humor? I don't think I have a great sense of humor and I have not heard anyone say that about me. The last thing I laughed at was during a meeting this morning. I would try to explain but it was one of those "you had to be here" moments.

2. How many pieces of jewelery are you wearing at this very moment? Do you wear jewelry every day, or only on special occasions? What is your favorite piece of jewelery? Tell us the story behind one piece of your jewelery. I have no jewelery on right now and I hardly ever wear jewelery. My favorite piece is a watch but I currently don't have a watch. I still need to go shopping for one.

3. If you could offer one piece of etiquette advice that everyone should follow when dining out, what would it be? Wipe your mouth while eating and don't let food hang off of it.

4. What are the first three things a guest would notice when they walked through your front door? My dogs that are competition for attention, the many computer in the living room and the fireplace.

_______________________________________________________________

1. It’s the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature is stirring … except you, you can’t sleep, and it’s 3:00 o’clock in the morning. What do you do? Lay in bed for a little while hoping I can go back to sleep. If that doesn't work I will get up and play on my computer (blogging, gaming on Pogo).

2. What is the one attribute that you have that your significant other struggles with? Why do you think he/she struggles with it? Now tell us one attribute that your significant other has that you wish you possessed. Telling the truth, being honest and being faithful are attributes that I have that The Man struggles with. I think he was hurt in the past by his first wife and I feel that he wants revenge but is going about it the wrong way. One attribute that he has that I would like to have is his ability to look at EVERYTHING with a "it will work" attitude.

3. What advice do you have for your next door neighbor? (This would be a good time to air your grievances - or - praise something about your neighbor). Begin with: Dear Neighbor, There is something I’d like to tell you …Please get the junk car out of your yard. It is an eyesore and it blocks my view.

4. If you could live yesterday all over again, what would you do anything differently?Just yesterday? I would have went to the laundry mat earlier in the day and I would have dressed warmer. It was so cold!

_______________________________________________________________

December 8th Questions:
1. What did you do over the weekend?
The weekend went by to fast. Saturday we sat around the house and played World of Warcraft and other video games. The Man is still sick/has health issues so we don't do too much outside of the home. Sunday, Son and I went to Wal Mart, the Laundry Mat, Sonic and McDonalds. I really need to get my washer and dryer fixed (or replaced).

2. If it weren’t for my blog, I’d spend more time working (when I am at work) or more time reading.

3. When was the last time you replied “because I said so”? Do you find yourself saying that a lot? Or do you prefer to tell people WHY you want them to do something for you.
I say it to my son and to The Man often. But at work I would rather tell them why I want them to do something.

4. What is the worst gift you’ve ever received? Tell us the story behind it. Now tell us the worst gift you’ve ever given. What was the reaction of the recipient?
The worse gift I guess I have ever received was absolutely nothing...it was if I was not even a blip on the radar. This has happened many times on my birthday, at Christmas and even on Valentine's Day. I do my best to not stress about it but it really does hurt my feelings.

1. Have you ever played hooky (from school or work)? If so, what excuse did you use to get out of school/work? What did you do instead of going to school/work? How often do you play hooky? If you’ve never played hooky, why not? What one thing HAS to happen before you would consider playing hooky (again)? Has your significant other every played hooky? If so, tell us about it. If not, why not? Has anyone you known ever gotten caught playing hooky? I have played hooky from school (many many years ago) and from work. During school years I just said I was sick. When I skipped work I would also say I was sick but added a cough or two in there when talking to the boss. In my current job I have only played hooky one time because I was so tired that all I wanted to do was sleep. So, I went home and slept the rest of the day. Nothing HAS to happen before I would consider playing hooky. There is no need for me to play hooky. I have a job that I get paid for and I intend to do that job to the best of my ability.

2. I can’t tell you the number of posts I read from bloggers who were going to BlogHer about what sorts of clothes they were going to pack for the trip. If you went (or wanted to go) to BlogHer, describe the outfit you did, or would have, worn for the first day of the conference. Remember, first impressions are everything (most of the time) so you want to impress your blogging buddies. Don’t forget to describe your shoes/accessories! Better yet, link us to your outfit so we can “see” what you’re talking about. Why did you pick this particular ensemble?
I would dress in something that I am comfortable in. If I am comfortable in my clothes then I will be comfortable with the people I meet and have more confidence in myself. I would probably wear a black pant suit with black dress shoes. I hate skirts and dresses and I probably would not carry a big purse nor have many accessories.

3. If you could be guaranteed an honest answer to three questions, what questions would you ask, and who would you ask them of? I would ask Steve, my boyfriend, the three questions. Those three questions would be, "Why?", "How many times?", and "Will you change your ways?"

4. If you could give a single piece of advice to the film industry in Hollywood, what would you say? If you were a powerful film producer, what sorts of films would you produce? Why? My one piece of advice would be..."Instead of producing films that you THINK the public wants, produce films that the public actually like. Go out and poll the masses to find out why we like and what we are tired of seeing.

1. Do you ever change the ring tone on your phone? What is your current ring tone? What cell phone service do you use now? Are you happy with said service? What sort of phone do you have? Are you happy with your phone? How often do you use your cell phone in a 24-hour period? I like to change the ring tone on my cell phone now and then. Right now I have "Crazy Bitch" as my ring tone LOL I love it. I have a Motorola flip phone and my service is Cingular (AT&T). I have had this service for many years now, so I guess I must like it. I am ready for a new phone. I would like to have a Blackberry or a Razor, but we shall see. I don't really use my cell phone too much during the day...maybe an hour total per day.

2. The year is half over (can you believe it?!) - think back, where were you at midnight, when it became 2008? If you made goals for ‘08, what were they and have you met them? What would you like to accomplish before ‘08 is over? Tell us ONE thing you absolutely MUST have done before the year is out.
When it became 2008 at midnight, I was at home with Steve and Colt watching television, while we were all three playing World of Warcraft. I did not make any goals or resolutions for 2008 and I have not done any New Years resolutions for a long time. In the past when I made a resolution it was broken within a month...or less! There really is nothing that I absolutely MUST do before 2008 is over. I would LOVE to move to Wisconsin soon though :)

3. It’s Saturday – are you going to lounge around the house and be sloppy? Or are you going to be social and run errands and catch up with friends? Sloppy or social?
I prefer to be sloppy. I am social all during the work week so on the weekends I like to lounge around the house and be sloppy. It helps me to relax and prepare for the upcoming work week.

4. If you could live one day in the life of your favorite TV character, who would it be and why?
I would like to be Elliot in Scrubs. She can be such a clumsy person yet still looks good!

Monday Morning Meme: July 7th Questions
Hosted by Write From Karen

1. What is your blog about? How long have you been blogging? Why did you begin blogging? Is it the same reason that you continue to blog today? How has your blog changed over the time you’ve had it? In six words, sum up your blog. My blog, Shannon's Moments of Introspection is mostly full of daily memes that I participate in, and has been around since June 2007. I have been blogging for many years but I think SMoI is the only one that I take serious (for now). I can sum up my blog with these six words: fun, laughter, memes, friends, daily and dedicated.

2. When you go for a haircut, do you do something drastic? Or are you more of a ‘just a trim’ sort of person? Do you color your hair? If so, how often? Tell us about your best, and worst, hairstyle. What sort of hairstyle do you think looks good on you now?
I always get the same haircut when I go to the salon...layered and thinned, because I have really thick hair. I don't really have a best or worst style, I just tend to keep the same look because I do no know what else would look good on me.

3. Tell us about your 4th of July celebration. Show us some pictures (if you have them). What did your family do? Did you go and see a big fireworks display? Or did you stay home and have a (semi) quiet family fireworks celebration? On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best), how patriotic would you say you are? Do you routinely talk about our country’s issues within your family unit? Do you and your significant other see eye-to-eye on political issues?
We didn't do much for the 4th of July, just went to the local fireworks display. The cost of gas kept us from traveling to see our families. On a scale of 1 to 10 I am an 8 as far as being patriotic...there is always room for improvement. Yes, my family routinely discusses our country's issues and no we don't all see eye-to-eye on political issues.

4. If you only had enough time each day to read one section of the newspaper, which section would you read? Why this particular section?
I would read the front page to catch up on the latest news or the comics to get my daily laugh.

Hosted by Write From Karen

1. What’s the last thing you grab before you run out of the door in the morning? Are you pretty good at being on time? Or do you constantly run behind? If/when you’re late, what is usually the reason(s)? The last thing I grab before running out the door in the morning is my purse! It has my keys, cell phone and other important items in it. I am pretty good at being on time. If I am late it is usually because I got held up at the Gate coming onto Post.

2. What is the last thing you bought from a vending machine? Where were you? How much did you spend? Do you use vending machines very often? The last thing I purchased from a vending machine was a Diet Pepsi this morning. I was at the Post Office checking mail for work and I spent $1.25. I visit a vending machine several times a week for soda.

3. What does the hand-soap in your bathroom smell of? What color are your bathroom walls? What color are your guest towels? What sort of decor, or theme, do you have in your bathroom? (Post a picture if you dare!) The hand soap in my bathroom is liquid Dial, that does not really have a smell. My bathroom walls are white, with white tiles and a few black tiles. I don't really have decor or a theme for the bathroom and the towels are a variety of colors. I have green, blue, white and tan towels.

4. What three words do you think of when someone says ‘body’? Clothing, Deodorant and Relaxation!
