National Chocolate Day 2016

National Chocolate Day is observed annually on October 28. While there are many specific chocolate related holidays throughout the year, National Chocolate Day celebrates all things chocolate. As America’s favorite flavor, chocolate is well deserving of its own day of honor and celebration. (Some sources designate July 7 or December 28 as Chocolate Day or International Chocolate Day.)

Fortune Cookie Friday

Today at work we ordered Chinese food for lunch.
Here is the fortune I received in my fortune cookie.
"The fact that others are bad does not imply that you are good."

What do you think about that?

Stuck in My Head: "Don't Stop Believin" by Journey

Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night

Workin' hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win
Some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night

[Instrumental interlude]

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlights, people

This Time of Year...

This time of year always arrives with mixed feelings for me. I love the magic of Christmas and I long for the days when I was young and carefree. I hate the commercialism and consumerism of today's world. It seems as if nearly everyone is worried about how many presents they will get and how expensive the gifts will be. Folks want the "latest and greatest" of all those toys and gadget and they seem to forget the true meaning of Christmas.

This year, and it happens every year, I am experiencing "down" times. Christmas is not the same any more.  I did not put up the tree or decorated the inside of the house. I decorate with a few items outside.  There are always too many bills to worry about. I am stressed over work, home, the kids, the grand kids,  my brother and his family, bills, vehicles, etc. It is a never ending vicious cycle.

People tell me that it always gets worse before it gets better. My only question is...when does it stop getting worse?

Banana Pudding Poke Cake

I saw this recipe floating around Facebook last week and plan on making it soon. YUM!

BANANA PUDDING POKE CAKE

INGREDIENTS:
1 box yellow cake mix (& ingredients to make cake)
2 box (small) instant banana pudding
4 c milk
8 oz whipped topping
20 vanilla wafers, crushed
sliced bananas

1 Follow the direction on the cake mix box to prepare the actual cake. Prepare it in a 9 x 13" pan. When golden, remove from over and let cool for a few minutes.

2 When just slightly cooled, use the end of a wooden spoon (the handle end) to poke holes into the baked cake. Make the holes big enough for the pudding to seep into and go deep enough with the spoon that you hit the bottom of the pan.

3 Next, prepare your pudding mixture. Combine your 4 cups of milk and the instant pudding mix; whisk until there are no lumps.

4 Pour the pudding mixture over the entire cake, taking care to get it into all the holes. Use the spoon to help really get it into the cake and spread evenly.

5 Refrigerate for approximately two hours... or until set. Top with whipped topping, crushed vanilla wafers and sliced banana! Serve and enjoy. (Refrigerate any leftovers.)
