Another One: Billy Mays

TV pitchman Billy Mays found dead at Florida home
By MITCH STACY, Associated Press Writer Mitch Stacy, Associated Press Writer

TAMPA, Fla. – Billy Mays, the burly, bearded television pitchman known for his boisterous hawking of products such as Orange Glo and OxiClean, has died. He was 50.

Tampa police said Mays was found unresponsive by his wife Sunday morning. A fire rescue crew pronounced him dead at 7:45 a.m.

There were no signs of a break-in, and investigators do not suspect foul play, said Lt. Brian Dugan of the Tampa Police Department, who wouldn't answer any more questions about how Mays' body was found because of the ongoing investigation. The coroner's office expects to have an autopsy done by Monday afternoon.

"Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days," said Mays' wife, Deborah. "Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times."

Tampa area media outlets reported that Mays was a passenger on a U.S. Airways flight that made a rough landing on Saturday afternoon at Tampa International Airport, apparently blowing its front tires in an incident that left debris on the runway.

Tampa Bay's Fox television affiliate interviewed Mays after the incident.

"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping," MyFox Tampa Bay quoted him as saying. "It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."

U.S. Airways officials said Sunday they could not immediately confirm that Mays was a passenger.

Born William Mays in McKees Rocks, Pa., on July 20, 1958, Mays developed his style demonstrating knives, mops and other "as seen on TV" gadgets on Atlantic City's boardwalk. For years he worked as a hired gun on the state fair and home show circuits, attracting crowds with his booming voice and genial manner.

After meeting Orange Glo International founder Max Appel at a home show in Pittsburgh in the mid-1990s, Mays was recruited to demonstrate the environmentally friendly line of cleaning products on the St. Petersburg-based Home Shopping Network.

Commercials and informercials followed, anchored by the high-energy Mays showing how it's done while tossing out kitschy phrases like, "Long live your laundry!"

Recently he's been seen on commercials for a wide variety of products and is featured on the reality TV show "Pitchmen" on the Discovery Channel, which follows Mays and Anthony Sullivan in their marketing jobs. He's also been seen in ESPN ads.

His ubiquitousness and thumbs-up, in-your-face pitches won Mays plenty of fans. People line up at his personal appearances for autographed color glossies, and strangers stop him in airports to chat about the products.

"I enjoy what I do," Mays told The Associated Press in a 2002 interview. "I think it shows."

Mays liked to tell the story of giving bottles of OxiClean to the 300 guests at his wedding, and doing his ad spiel ("powered by the air we breathe!") on the dance floor at the reception. Visitors to his house typically got bottles of cleaner and housekeeping tips.

Discovery Channel spokeswoman Elizabeth Hillman released a statement Sunday extending sympathy to the Mays family.

"Everyone that knows him was aware of his larger-than-life personality, generosity and warmth," Hillman's statement said. "Billy was a pioneer in his field and helped many people fulfill their dreams. He will be greatly missed as a loyal and compassionate friend."

Song Sharing Sunday: Angel Eyes

Song Sharing Sharing Badge

"Angel Eyes"

Girl you're lookin' fine tonight
And every guy has got you in his sight
What you're doin' with a clown like me
Is surely one of life's little mysteries

So tonight I'll ask the stars above
How did I ever win your love
What did I do, what did I say
To turn your angel eyes my way

Well I'm the guy who never learned to dance
Never even got one second glance
Across a crowded room was close enough
I could look but I could never touch

So tonight I'll ask the stars above
How did I ever win your love
What did I do, what did I say
To turn your angel eyes my way

Don't anyone wake me if it's just a dream
Cause she's the best thing that ever happened to me
All you fellows you can look all you like
Well this girl you see, she's leaving here with me tonight

There's just one more thing I need to know
If this is love why does it scare me so
There must be something only you can see
Cause girl I feel it when you look at me

So tonight I'll ask the stars above
How did I ever win your love
What did I do, what did I say
To turn your angel eyes my way

STUCK IN YOUR HEAD!

Lyrics found online.

If I could have my wasted days back,
Would I use them to get back on track?
Stop to warm at karmas burning,
Or Look ahead, but keep on turning.

Do I have the strength
To know how I'll go?
Can I find it inside to deal with what I shouldn't know?

Could I have my wasted days back?
Would I use them to get back on track.

You live it or you lie it!You live it or you lie it!
(You live it or lie it! You live it or lie it!)

My lifestyle determines my deathstyle!
My lifestyle determines my deathstyle!

Wednesday Weirdness #59

Wednesday Weirdness
_________________________________________________________________

1.) Do you/Did you ever have a piggy bank shaped like a pig? What do you keep your spare change in? I had a piggy bank that was shaped like a pig when I was a kid. I broke it because I wanted an ice cream. Now that I am an adult I keep my change in the cup holder in my car and van.

2.) Be honest. Have you ever stolen anything before? Yes, when I was a kid, like 8 or 9 years old I stole a pack of gum from the local store. My father made me take it back in and pay for it.

3.) Would it be more awkward to be walked in on during sex by your parents or your children?
It would be more awkward if my children walked in while I was having sex. I am sure they know I do things like that but they don't need to see it.

4.) How comfortable would you be at a nude beach? Would you keep your clothes on, keep it modest or bare it all?
I would not be at all comfortable but I would not keep all my clothes on. I would at least go topless.

5.) Where is a place that seems fun and sexy to get it on at but in reality probably wouldn't work out very well?
On my desk at work, but there are way too many people there to witness the act.

6.) Do you have sex less in the summer because of the hot temperatures?
The hot temperatures don't stop me from having sex. Just crank up the air conditioner. If the AC is broke then go swimming and take advantage of the water for a little adult fun!

7.) Have you ever had a dream that was in black and white?
I have had dreams in black and white...kinda creepy but not too horrible.

Bonus) When you have a naughty dream, most often is it usually your partner in the dream with you or someone else?
I usually have naughty dreams about my partner.

Heads or Tails: Lost

I thought I lost this a long time ago since I have changed computers a few times and was not always good at backing up my files. BUT I finally found it again on my personal web site. Isn't it great!

I am not even sure if the lady that made it is still online. She is/was a brilliant artist!

"How Could You?"

I'm addicted to
Everything you do
I'm dying inside

Your sucking me down
It makes me feel,
I'm gonna drown
It's killing me now
All you do is bring me down
All this time and all your lies
It has to be no surprise
Now I realize it now

How could you cheat on me
Then turn your back on me
You told me all the lies and hypnotized and I believed
How could you cheat on me
Then turn you back on me
You tole me all the lies and hypnotized and I believed

I'm coming to know all the secrets you hold
You think I'm a fool and I don't know what you do
But I look in your eyes and I finally realize

In all this time and all your lies
It has been no surprise now I realize and now

and now with all your pride
You still can't look me in the eyes
and now in all your shame
You can't even speak my name

I'm addicted to every single thing you do
I'm dying inside....

Butterfest In Sparta

http://www.spartabutterfest.com/

Come Join The Fun

History...(reposted from www.spartabutterfest.com
SPARTA FESTIVALS was incorporated on February 14th, 1984. It was formed for the purpose to raise funds and conduct fundraising projects for the advancement of the general welfare of the City of Sparta.

In 1982-83, Mayor Thomas Gomez wanted something done for Sparta's Bi-Centennial celebration. A group of local citizens got together and created a small festival for that year. After it was over, the group decided that Sparta needed some type of festival held annually. The group expanded and worked on creating a legal Incorporation with the State and wrote By-laws for SPARTA FESTIVALS INC.

When the annual festival was created, it was on a very small scale. There were no funds and the City of Sparta pledged $3,000 for the first year event. The next two years the festival group borrowed $1,500 from local banks.

In 1984 the festival was called Sparta Fest Days. In 1985 it was changed to Sparta Butter Festival as Sparta was well known for it's State Award Winning Butter Makers who worked at the local milk plant. A few years later it was changed to Sparta Butter Celebration and in 1992 it was changed to Sparta Butterfest.

In 1985, the first Miss Sparta Scholarship Pageant was established and Michelle Karbula was crowned the first Miss Sparta. Initally, for the first few years, the Miss Sparta Pageant was part of the Miss America Pageant family. In the early 90's, the Miss Sparta Pageant was taken over by the SPARTA FESTIVALS committee and all scholarship money each year is funded by Sparta Butterfest. This allowed all contestants to win some level of scholarship money. A few years ago the Pageant family was expanded by creating a Little Miss Sparta and Junior Miss Sparta Pageant.

Also, in 1985, the Sparta Butterfest Festmasters program was created and Jim Creviston was named the first Festmaster. Jim's choice was based on that he was a State Award-Winning Butter Maker at Sparta's local milk plant. In 1992, the first Sparta Butterfest Festmaster's Reception was held with a dinner and dance. This annual event is when the new Sparta Butterfest Festmaster is introduced.

In 1999, Sparta Butterfest named a Parade Marshal. The Sunday Sparta Butterfest Parade draws thousands of people and is the most celebrated event of the 3-day Butterfest celebration. The first Parade Marshall was Kay Johnson. Kay coordinated the parade for many years and with her expertise, the Sparta Butterfest Parade quickly became one of the best and most popular parades in the area. Over 150 entries participate in the parade each year.

In 2005, the Sparta Butterfest Royal Family expanded again with the creation of the Lady Butterfest program. Lady Butterfest is co-sponsored by the Sparta Festivals Committee and the Miss Sparta Pageant Committee. This honor goes to a female from Sparta who has made an indelible mark on the City with her volunteer and career work. Joan Cook was named the very first Lady Butterfest.

At this time, Sparta Festivals Inc. has a $90,000 budget annually to put on Sparta Butterfest. The revenue collected during the 3-day event goes back into the community in a variety of donations. Over $320,000 has been given back to the community over the years from Sparta Butterfest. Over the years, projects we've donated to include a new Boy & Girls Club, a new Community Center, a new building at Evans-Bosshard Park, Badger State Boys & Girls programs, Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Foundation, upgrades in electrical boxes in Memorial Park, Boy Scouts program, School programs and thousands of dollars given to area civic organizations' projects.

Sparta Festivals Inc. meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month, except in June and December and people are encouraged to join the organization. For more information, just fill out the "Contact Us" on this web site.

Sparta Butterfest takes place the 2nd weekend of June each year. Come One, Come All and Experience Hometown Hospitality and Just Plain Family Fun!
