Earth Day 2020: 50th Anniversary

April 22, 2020 marks the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day and the theme for Earth Day 2020 is Climate Action.

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, activated 20 million Americans from all walks of life and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. The passage of the landmark Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and many other groundbreaking environmental laws soon followed.

Sunday Stealing: Quirky Questions

 https://sundaystealing.blogspot.com/
This week's Sunday Stealing is from SwapBot.

1. Did you become what you wanted to be when you grew up? Are you happy with your choice?

I am happy with my current job, but it is not what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be a computer programmer in the United States Air Force.

2. Did man really go to the moon or was it a publicity stunt?

I believe man really did go to the moon.

3. Given the opportunity to change one major aspect of your life (i.e. career, relationship, family) with no guarantee of the outcome, would you take the chance? Why?

It would depend on what that change is.  I would weigh the pros and cons and decide from there.

4. Does money buy happiness?

Money does not buy happiness.

5. What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

I check my phone to see what time it is and if I have any messages, then I get out of bed and go to the bathroom.

6. What are we going to do when we run out of room to bury the dead?

We will need to start cremating the dead so they can be in urns.  Urns are much smaller than caskets.

7. What is your greatest fear? Why? Is it rational or unreasonable?

My greatest fear is death. I do not want to die. The fear overwhelms me at time and can be very irrational and unreasonable. We cannot escape death. There are no second chances once you die.

8. How do you feel about the exploitation of your private data in the digital age? Does it ever cross your mind or are you hyper-aware of the risks?

I am hyper aware of the risks and do my best to keep my information private.

9. You can be forgiven one debt. What is it? If you don’t have debt, then how did you do it?

I would like my Jeep to be paid off.

10. Hot or cold?

At the moment I am a little chilly but not too cold.

11. What is your favorite thing in the world (aside from family, friends, pets)?

Being alive.

12. You have to give up one of your five senses. Which one would you go without?

I would go without taste.

13. Do you believe everyone has a doppelgänger?

I think it is quite possible that everyone has a doppelganger in the world.

14. Likewise, does everyone have a soulmate or is it just a matter of proximity and circumstance?

I also feel that everyone has a soulmate.  However, I do not think everyone will get a chance to meet their true soulmate.

15. Imagine you have a theme song that plays every time you enter a room. What would your song be?

I really cannot think of  a theme song for myself. Maybe something from Five Finger Death Punch....like Gone Away or Wrong Side of Heaven.

Sunday Stealing: More COVID-19 Questions

This week's Sunday Stealing is from SwapBot.

1 – What is something you are doing due to the pandemic that you normally don’t do? After the pandemic will you continue to so this?

I wear a mask when I go out in public now, which is not very often.  I doubt I will continue to do so once the pandemic is over.

2 - What made you happy, sad, or frustrated today? List, all big and/or small, as there may be some of one or all of these feelings!

I had to go to town today.  I got very frustrated with all the traffic and some people not practicing social distancing.  I went to one store, got what I needed and got the hell out.  I was happy that I had a mask to wear while in town and I was sad that most people were not wearing a mask.

3- What is one of the first things you will do when the pandemic is over?

I will hug my mother-in-law and father-in-law.

4 – Are you an essential employee or do you know someone who is? Is this affecting you in some way?

I am still working but I am teleworking from home. My supervisor has to be in the office since she is an essential employee.

5 – What are you doing to de-stress during this stressful time?

Play video games, read, sleep, watch tv, eat way more than I should and go outside for fresh air.

6 – Have you tried any new recipes during this time? Please share your recipe if you want to.

I have not tried any new recipes lately.

7 – Have you always lived where you do now? If not, how did you wind up in the place you currently live?

I moved from Missouri to Wisconsin in January 2009 lived with my in-laws for 5 months.  I moved into my current house in May 2009.

8- Where is the last place you visited on-line?

Sunday Stealing and my blog.

9- What is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to you?

"I love you Mama."

10 – Tell me about the last photo on your camera (phone or real camera or both!)

It is a selfie of me and my new work look.  Since I am now teleworking I wear a headset for telephone calls.

Happy National Pet Day!

Happy National Pet Day!
“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us,
and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.
It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives
and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.”

29 Years Ago Today

My mom, passed away on April 3, 1991 (29 years ago).
She was killed in a nearly head-on automobile accident, five miles from home.
It is hard to believe she has been gone for 27 years.
I have been motherless for over half of my life..

Mom and I did not get along very well as I was growing up.
I wish I had listened to some of her advice at the time she offered it to me.
But I thought I was right and that she was just trying to run my life.
I know better now. I miss her and love her very much.

The following, beautiful poem was written for me in May 2007 by a sweet friend, Debi Fisher.

FOREVER MOTHER

I think as little girls
We are all born to be a Mother
The same as all the rest
Yet different from one another
We cuddle dolls and puppies
We fix boo boos and small aches
We have this built in nurse
And do whatever it takes
We all have our little quirks
But the love I remember best
Mom wasn’t there all the time
But when she was it was filled with zest
She’s take me to the beauty parlor
Her hair done , I’d get nails
Being with her , in her special place
Put the wind right into my sails
So now I’m grown and have kids
Two of my own grown and finding their way
I reflect back to the time
When I shared that same kind of day
Once a little girl
And now I am another
I’ll never forget , and my memories I’ll keep
Of my forever Mother
