Earth Day 2018

Earth Day, celebrated in the US on April 22, is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year.

The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, activated 20 million Americans from all walks of life and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. The passage of the landmark Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and many other groundbreaking environmental laws soon followed. Growing out of the first Earth Day, Earth Day Network (EDN) works with over 50,000 partners in 192 countries to broaden, diversify and mobilize the environmental movement. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.

Please visit EarthDay.org for more information.

Trip To The Grandparents House

Today, we went to my mother-in-law/father-in-law's house for family dinner.
And of course we took Shelby along. She loves her Grandma and Grandpa.
As you can see in the following photo, being at their house puts a smile on her beautiful face.

Stuck In My Head: "Save Yourself" by Stabbing Westward

"Save Yourself"

I know your life is empty
And you hate to face this world alone
So you're searching for an angel
Someone who can make you whole
I can not save you
I can't even save myself
So just save yourself

I know that you've been damaged
Your soul has suffered such abuse
But I am not your savior
I am just as fucked as you
I am just as fucked as you
I can not save you
I can't even save myself
So just save yourself

Please don't take pity on me
Please don't take pity on me
Please don't take pity on me
Please don't take pity on me

My life has been a nightmare
My soul is fractured to the bone
And if I must be lonely, I think I'd rather be alone
I think I'd rather be alone

You can not save me
You can't even save yourself
I can not save you
I can't even save myself
Save yourself
So just save yourself

Where Is My Footstool?

Yesterday, Queen Shelby is not a happy puppy.  Someone (her Daddy) moved her footstool
and she was loft with only the big, over-sized, chair to lay on. Poor Shelby!

The footstool had to be moved to allow us to move a few things into and out of the house.
Shelby got her footstool back once everything was in place.

Sunday Stealing: The Movies

1. Have you ever had a movie both totally captivate and complete confuse you? Maybe one or two have confused me.  But apparently they did not make much of an impression on me because I cannot remember them.  I have always been captivated by Gone With The Wind.

2. When watching a movie, do you prefer things all laid out or to have to 'hunt for your own clues' along the way? I don't mind looking for a clue or two since I do not like surprises.

3. Do you want an ultimate ending to your movie or do you prefer to have it open for conjecture and discussion. It totally depends on what the movie is about. There are many movies that need to just end and be done, while there are still some that should be open for discussion.

4. Do you talk during a movie (preferably one in your home, not in the theater)? I do talk during a movie. Thank goodness for the pause button. I am also guilty of talking during a movie at the theater.  One must say "excuse me" when getting up to go to the restroom.

5. Have you ever seen a blockbuster movie and not get what was so great about it? Many times!

6. What book frightened you as a young person? "It" by Stephen King.  I hate clowns.

7. If you had to become a ‘living book (i.e. able to recite the contents of a book cover to cover upon request – reference Fahrenheit 451), what book would it be?  Gone With The Wind

8. What movie or TV show scared you as a kid? I cannot think of any TV shows that scared me. As far as movies, The Exorcist (1973) scared me.

9. What movie (scary or otherwise) will you never ever watch? The Twilight series or the Fifty Shades series.  Both are very boring to me.

10. Do you have any phobias? I have claustrophobia and thanatophobia.

11. What's the happiest thing to ever happen to you? My children being born.

12. What's the saddest thing to ever happen to you? My son dying.

13. What's the thing that got you the most angry in your life? Lots of things. I do my best to not stress about those things and carry on with life.

14. What's the most frightening thing to ever happen to you? Hearing my son had cancer and knowing it would kill him.

15. What's the most unbelievable thing to happen to you in your life? I know I sound like a broken record, but the death of my son was one of the most unbelievable things to happen to me.  I never thought I would outlive either of my children.

Someone We love....

Mama loves you Colt and misses you so very much!
I thought of you today, but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday and the day before that, too.
I think of you in silence, I often speak your name.
All I have are memories and pictures in a frame.
Your memory is a keepsake from which I will never part.
I will always have you in my heart.

Sunday Stealing: Curious As A Cat

1) Do you think you’d be a good writer? What kind of writer would you like to be (fiction, children’s books, magazine, etc.)? I don't think I would be a good writer.

2) I wish I had enough money to be debt free, to pay off my house and to get a new vehicle.

3) If you had to enter a competition for the "Most Uselessly Unique Talent," what would your talent be? The ability to do cross stitch puzzles (Cross Stitch World) on Facebook for hours.

4) When it might hurt their feelings, how do you feel about telling your friends the truth? I find it to also hurt my feelings also.  I don't like hurting others but I believe in telling the truth.

5) Peanut or plain? Peanut

6) Is there someone you would like to take your place in life for one day? Who and why? No one I can think of.

7) What do you think is the ugliest thing or event on Earth? Child abuse, animal abuse, and any type of abuse.

8) What is your least favorite of your personality traits or quirks? I laugh or giggle too much when I am nervous.

9) I wish I could see my son again because I miss him very much.

10) Tell us your favorite children's story. Where The Wild Things Are

11) What do you keep in the trunk of your car? I do no have a car or a trunk.  I do have a Jeep and I don't have anything in the back of it at the moment.

12) Describe your perfect, rainy afternoon. Sitting on a covered porch, reading a good book, drinking sweet iced tea.

13) Tell us about your favorite way to get lost in a simple activity — running, chopping vegetables, folding laundry, whatever. What’s it like when you’re in "the zone"? I just get lost in thought, preferably with the music cranked up!

14) What parts of nature do you like best? The smell of freshly falling rain, flowers blooming, a walk in the forest, sitting on a river bank watching the clouds go by.

15) What's the kindest act you have ever seen done (either to/by you or another)? Many years ago, my son and I stopped at Baskin Robins to get egg nog shakes.  I was down to my last few dollars, but I had promised Colt he would get his shake that day. When I get to the check out, I was told my items were already paid for. The soldiers in line ahead of us had paid for our shakes.  Colt ran over and gave them both a big hug.  I was in tears as I thanked them. I will never forget their kindness.

eCard of the Week #239: What Really Matters

At the end of life, what really matters is
not what we brought, but what we built;
not what we got, but what we shared;
not our competence, but our character;
and not our success, but our significance.
Live a life that matters.
Live a life of love.

Spring Snow

Yes, it is Spring BUT it still snowed all day yesterday.
I took a few photos and got a video of Shelby listening
to the geese in the marsh and listening to the snow fall.

View from my office window.
Poor Shelby has to pee in the snow.
My pine tree is getting loaded down with snow!
Still snowing and getting deeper.
