Saturday 9: I Had an Accident

Saturday 9: I Had an Accident

1. Have you ever been in a serious accident? If not, how about any accident?

I have been in a few accidents. The most serious accident I have been associated with was on April 3, 1991. The accident involved my mother (who died at the scene) and my brother (who survived but had a lot of injuries and trauma). They were 5 miles from home...a older man ran a stop sign, traveling at a rate of 80mph...he hit them nearly head on.

2. Have you ever been ticketed for an accident and if so did you pay it or fight it?

I have never been ticketed for an accident. I have had a few speeding tickets though.

3. What kind of insurance do you have and would you recommend it to your friends?

I have American Family Insurance and have been with the company for 12 years or so. I would recommend that company to my friends and I have done so before.

4. Did the accident cause you to change the way you drive?

The accident that involved my mom and brother changed the way I drive. I wear my seat belt at all times and I make everyone in the vehicle wear one. I am also very cautious when approaching intersections.

5. Did you need a rental car? If so, did you get a better car or worse one than you had? If not,
what did you do for transportation?

I was rear ended by a semi-truck in 2002 and my car was totaled. I had to drive a rental car for a week.

6. Have any of the mishaps you've experienced with your vehicles given you impressions of the quality or safety of certain vehicles?

Not really. Each accident is different. I have seen two semi-trucks after they crashed into each other head on...neither driver lived and the trucks were torn to shreds.

7. Have you had to hire an attorney due to an accident?

I had to hire an attorney to help us deal with my mom's accident.

8. When in an accident were you alone, with someone, with your children, etc. Did that make a difference in the situation?

As I stated early, every accident is different. The people involved will always make a difference in how I react at the scene.

9. Finally, if you could drive any vehicle you wanted, what would it be?

I would drive a 1964 1/2 Mustang...or a 1965 Mustang, 1966 Mustang....you get the drift :)

  5. Wow, I'll add my sympathies. Vehicular accidents are all too common, and very scary. I'm glad your brother is recovering well.
